Roadwork in Brief: Prescott pavement preservation, Bashford Courts Alley, Willis and Cortez, 89 Widening and Roundabout and more

Prescott pavement preservation begins

The City of Prescott and VSS International, Inc., are scheduled to begin a pavement preservation project along selected roadways throughout the Prescott area. Improvements include crack sealing, sealcoating (slurry, chip seal and microseal), restoration of handicap ramps, and curb and gutter as needed. In addition to these streets, pavement preservation work will be completed along multiple taxiways within the Prescott Municipal Airport. The project is scheduled for completion in summer 2018.

WORK BEGINS SATURDAY — Beginning April 21 and continuing this week, crews will be applying an oil-based emulsion material along the following roads: Centerpointe Drive, Demerse Avenue, Rosser Street, Doka Drive, Mosher Lane, Prescott View Place, Iron Springs Road, Fair Street, and Miller Valley Road. For work zone extents along each street. This emulsion material is designed to restore and rejuvenate roads and is the first step in the preservation process.

Please be aware of the following impacts: from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, April 21, and Monday through Saturday, April 23-28. One lane of traffic will remain open at all times, however, motorists may encounter lane restrictions, and reduced speeds while driving through the project area. Crews will work to maintain traffic flow, but due to the nature of the work, motorists should expect delays.

PAVEMENT REPAIRS including restoration of handicap ramps, and curb and gutter will begin along multiple work zones. Work will be performed along following roads: Centerpointe Drive, Panorama Drive, Robin Drive, Clearwater Drive, East Rosser Street, and select streets in the Cliff Rose community.

Please be aware of the following impacts: from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, April 23-28. One lane of traffic will remain open at all times through the work zones, however, motorists may encounter turning restrictions, reduced speeds, and narrow lanes.

STREET PARKING — On-street parking will be limited from time to time within the construction zones with “No Parking” signage posted 24 hours in advance of any parking restrictions. Vehicles parked on the street during these restrictions will be towed at the owner’s expense. Those affected will be notified 48 hours in advance.

Dexter Neighborhood

The City of Prescott and Capital Improvements, LLC, are working on a road and utility upgrade project along select streets in the Dexter Neighborhood. The project consists of replacing undersized water and sewer main lines, road improvements, and installing new water service connections for residents. In addition to this work, curb and gutter, sidewalk, and driveway replacements will be performed as needed. Project completion is scheduled for spring 2018.

CAMPBELL STREET — Crews will finish preparing the subgrade along Campbell Street, from West Merritt Avenue to West Hillside Avenue, this week. Asphalt paving operations will begin on Wednesday, April 25. Please be aware of the following impacts: 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, April 23-27. Campbell Street will be closed to through traffic in the work zone, however, personnel will accommodate access for local businesses and residents.

LINCOLN AVENUE — Crews will be removing a section of the roadway and performing asphalt paving operations along Lincoln Avenue, from West Merritt Avenue to Whipple Street. Please be aware of the following impacts: 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, April 23-27. Lincoln Avenue will be closed to through traffic in the work zone, however, personnel will accommodate access for local businesses and residents.

COMFORT AVENUE — Installation of new water main and water services along Comfort Avenue, from Lincoln Avenue to Campbell Street, will continue throughout the week. Please be aware of the following impacts: 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, April 23-27. Comfort Avenue will be closed to through traffic in the work zone, however, personnel will accommodate access for local businesses and residents.

SONORA DRIVE — Crews will continue hauling dirt to Sonora Drive throughout the week. Please be aware of the following impacts: 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, April 23-27. Sonora Drive will be temporarily open to through traffic, however, motorists are reminded that this is an active work zone and to be aware of rough roads, heavy equipment, and to use an alternate route if possible.

RUTH STREET — Crews will continue the process of tying the newly installed lateral service lines into private connections along Ruth Street from West Hillside Avenue to Whipple Street. Residents receiving cross-lot connections will be contacted by the contractor prior to any construction activities on the property. Please be aware of the following impacts: 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, April 23-27. Ruth Street will be temporarily open to through traffic, however, motorists are reminded that this is an active work zone.

DAMERON DRIVE AND BIRD STREET — Asphalt paving operations are now complete along Dameron Drive, from West Hillside Avenue to Whipple Street. Crews have finished installing lateral service lines along Dameron Drive from the Brannen Avenue intersection to Comfort Avenue. In addition, the process of tying the newly installed lateral service lines into private connections along Bird Street, from West Hillside Avenue to just north of West Merritt Avenue, is finished.

UTILITY SERVICE INTERRUPTIONS — The process of tying the newly installed lateral service lines into private connections has begun. Please be aware that temporary water shutoffs will be required to perform this work. Those affected will be notified 48 hours in advance.

Granite Creek Dam

The City of Prescott and Fann Contracting, Inc., are set to begin repairing the Granite Creek Dam at Watson Lake. The proposed improvements to the dam will stabilize the existing 48-inch, non-working valve with concrete, and remove and replace the leaking 36-inch valve. Phase I of construction will begin on Monday, April 23, and is scheduled to be completed by the Memorial Day Holiday. Phase II will begin in the fall.

VALVE REPAIRS — In preparation for valve repairs, crews will be mobilizing equipment to the Granite Creek Dam and performing underwater dive operations throughout the week.

Please be aware of the following impacts: Monday, April 23, through Friday, May 25. Lake users are asked to respect the work zone and remain outside of the buoy line designating the work zone around the dam.

SOUTH BOAT RAMP TO CLOSE — Crews will be staging materials and equipment in the parking lot of the south boat ramp at Watson Lake.

Please be aware of the following impacts: Monday, April 23 through Thursday, April 26. The Watson Lake Parking Lot at the south boat ramp and the south parking lot trails will be partially closed. Also, the south boat ramp will be closed this week.

Bashford Courts Alley, Willis and Cortez

The City of Prescott and Earth Resources Corporation, are currently working on an infrastructure improvement project in downtown Prescott. The project is scheduled to be complete in late spring 2018.

CONCRETE WORK — Starting April 22, crews will begin installing concrete crosswalks, access ramps, and driveway entrances at the intersection of Willis and Cortez streets. Please be aware of the following impacts: Sunday through Wednesday, April 22-25. Starting at 6 p.m. Sunday, the intersection of Willis and Cortez will be closed to through traffic. Access to local businesses will remain open. The intersection is slated to be reopened by 6 a.m. Wednesday.

ASPHALT PAVING — Crews will begin asphalt paving along Willis Street, from the Willis and Cortez intersection to Montezuma Street, on Wednesday night. Please be aware of the following impacts: 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Wednesday through Friday, April 25-27.

BASHFORD ALLEY — Crews will be performing concrete work at the entrance to the Bashford Alley this week. Please be aware of the following impacts: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Tuesday, April 23-24.

Rosser Street

The City of Prescott and Asphalt Paving & Supply, Inc., are working on a road and infrastructure reconstruction project along Rosser Street. The project extents include Rosser Street from Campbell Avenue to just east of Eagle View Drive. The project is scheduled for completion in summer 2018.

The second segment of road excavation along Rosser Street, from Piping Rock Road to Prescott View Place, will continue throughout the week. Please be aware of the following impacts: 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, April 23-27. With this project, one lane of traffic will remain open at all times.

CONCRETE WORK — Crews will begin replacing concrete sidewalks, driveway entrances, handicap ramps, and curb and gutter along Rosser Street from Piping Rock Road to Prescott View Place. This work will occur on an as-needed basis.

89 Widening and Roundabout

The City of Prescott and Asphalt Paving & Supply, Inc., are working on a road and utility upgrade project along Highway 89. The project limits include 89 between the 89A/Pioneer Parkway interchange and Granite Dells. Improvements include the widening of 89, water and sewer utility upgrades, removing and replacing the existing asphalt, construction of a new roundabout near the Phippen Museum, and a new parking area for the Constellation Trail System. The project is to be complete in spring 2018.

ASPHALT PAVING — Starting Sunday, April 22, crews will begin asphalt paving along Highway 89, between the 89A/Pioneer Parkway interchange and Granite Dells. To minimize the impact to the traveling public, this portion of the work will be performed at night. Please be aware of the following impacts: 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, April 22-26. Highway 89 will be closed to through traffic during paving operations. The trailhead parking lot will also be closed.
