Malcolm Barret honored with inaugural Bob Stump Lifetime Achievement Award stories

Former Yavapai County Republican Committee chairman Malcolm Barrett was honored with the first ever Bob Stump Lifetime Achievement Award at the committee’s 2018 Lincoln-Reagan Dinner Saturday, April 21, at Prescott Resort and Conference Center.

When it comes to achievements as a Republican, one person who comes to mind is Congressman Bob Stump, said Yavapai County Republican Committee Chairman Dr. Mark Sensmeier. Another person who comes to mind is Barrett, Sensmeier said. Barrett has supported the Republican Party in Yavapai County, Arizona and in the nation with his time, effort and money, he said.

“A navy fighter pilot and business owner, he has served as a longtime precinct committeeman, Yavapai County Republican chairman, state committeeman, first vice chair of the Arizona GOP and campaign manager and supporter for numerous candidates,” Sensmeier said.

Barrett said he was surprised, honored and humbled to receive the award from the people he’s been working with for the past three decades. Local recognition is the highest honor a person can receive, he said.

To the room full of candidates running for election and re-election, Barrett stated running for office takes a lot of courage. He urged everyone in attendance to respect every candidate.

“Candidates go through a lot of hard work, a lot of grief and it’s a very time consuming thing,” Barrett said. “You all have the candidate you’re going to support and that’s fine. But I’ll tell you this: you must respect all candidates because they deserve it.”

Barrett was presented with the Bob Stump Lifetime Achievement Award by Sensmeier and Gov. Doug Ducey who was the evening’s keynote speaker.

Earlier, Ducey said the 2018 Lincoln-Reagan Dinner was a night to celebrate and reflect about what’s best in the Republican Party, the vision it has for the future for the state of Arizona and the country and the accomplishments they could enjoy that night. He thanked everyone there for their hard work in making the party stronger and more formidable than ever before.

“At the state level, Arizona is a model for what happens when government has some common sense and stays out of people’s way,” Ducey said. “If you like what we’re doing at the governor level, I want to say I couldn’t do it without the legislature that I am blessed with.”
