Hannah Mailand said she and her family were at the Earth Day Celebration Saturday, April 21 and noticed an assortment of fire trucks on the other side of the street.

So they wandered over to the Firewise Expo. It was a good combination of events, she said.

“The fact that they get to go into the trucks is pretty exciting,” Mailand said.

Similarly, Lauren Kooken was looking for something fun to do. Her husband used to be a wildland firefighter and her 2-year-old son, Larson, loves fire trucks, she said.

“We decided to come down here and see what was going on,” Kooken said.

In addition to the first responder vehicles, Prescott National Forest was present reminding people of the fire restrictions, which went into effect Friday, April 20, said Public Information Officer Debbie Maneely.

They were letting people know they can go to https://ift.tt/2Jh1YHo to check what the restrictions are county by county, Maneely said.

“Not every agency has the same restrictions,” she said. “People need to be aware of wherever they’re recreating and the restrictions there. For instance, the Prescott National Forest, we’re not allowing target shooting, yet Coconino and the Red Rock just went into restrictions and they’re still allowing target shooting.”

Furthermore, kids were getting the chance to use some wildland firefighter equipment in a game where they took a hose and sprayed targets painted to look like flames. It was a big hit and the kids really seemed to enjoy it, Maneely said.
